How Often Should You Service Your Boiler?
The short answer: once a year. Here's why it's worth it, and what a proper service actually involves.
Why annual?
- Your warranty depends on it. Nearly every manufacturer warranty — including the extended Baxi warranties we offer — requires an annual service by a Gas Safe engineer. Skip a year and the warranty can be void just when you need it.
- Safety. A service checks for carbon monoxide risks, flue problems and gas leaks you'd never spot yourself.
- Catching small problems early. A worn seal or sluggish pump found at a service is a small job. The same fault found on a freezing January morning is a breakdown.
- Efficiency. A clean, well-adjusted boiler burns less gas. That's your heating bill.
What a proper service includes
Not just a quick look. The boiler is opened up: flue gases analysed, gas pressure checked, burner and heat exchanger inspected and cleaned where needed, seals checked, safety devices tested, condensate trap cleared, and the system pressure and controls checked over.
When to book
Late summer or autumn is ideal — before the heating season, when any issues found can be fixed without you shivering. It's also when engineers' diaries are kindest. Booking in the same month each year keeps the warranty record clean.
